Library: Our library day and time will be determined at the beginning of school. All kinder kiddos are allowed to check out one new book per week. All books must be checked in before getting a new one. I will need a parent volunteer to help us during library.
Transportation: In the morning, children must stay outside and meet me on line #1. Children are not allowed in the school before 8:00 for breakfast, and 8:25 for everyone else. For those having breakfast at school, please drop off at the door just north of the office. All others can be dropped off or brought to the playground off Agnes St. south of the school. Children who will be taking the bus at anytime during the year must wear a bus tag on their backpack. Children who will be picked up after school will be walked out the kindergarten door, by the Outdoor Discovery Core. I ask that your child stay with me at pick up until you approach us. Then we can say goodbye and I know they were picked up by the correct person. Please be on time for pick up! If pick up arrangements are changed from your normal routine I will need to be informed immediately. I do not send children on the bus, or wait for a parent ride, or send with another adult unless I have been notified in writing!!! Suggestion: Write a note on masking tape or mailing label and stick it to your child’s shirt. This works for any change in daily routine. If you forget to send a note, please call the office. I do not change the routine unless I have a note. I stick with our original agreement.
Lunch: Your child will eat at school everyday! They may eat hot lunch, or bring a lunch from home which we call a cold lunch. Lunch or milk money can go directly to the office or you may send it in with your child, and I will get it to the office. Checks are made out to Lewis and Clark. Put a note on your child’s shirt if there is money in the backpack for lunch.
Thursdays: You will receive important information in a special envelope. Empty the "Thursday Envelope" Thursday night and I will collect them on Friday. There are many days when your child will get notes besides Thursday. Please check your child’s backpack every day!!! Every Thursday is early out and dismissal time is 1:55.
Clothing: Children should dress appropriately for playing outdoors and for the weather conditions everyday. Please keep in mind that “messy” projects do take place inside as well. Please label backpacks and clothing for easy identification when items are left at school. Gym shoes must be worn to participate in gym class, so please have your child wear gym shoes every day. School policy is no flip flops, and no thin strapped tank tops.
Snack: My students will have the opportunity to have a communal classroom snack in the afternoon. I will be asking for donations of classroom snacks using a snack sign up calendar. I will be sharing this calendar with all parents using Google Docs. All snacks must be healthy fresh foods. Please be sure all fruits and vegetables are washed and pre-portioned.

Parent Helpers: We will need classroom helpers once the school year gets going and we have established routines and procedures. I will also need a consistent parent helper that will be willing to be trained in checking out library books during our library time. There will be various other opportunities to volunteer throughout the year as well. It is important for your child to know that you are involved with his/her school activities!
** When coming into the room, please remember to turn off cell phone ringers and if you MUST take a call, talk in the hall. Thanks!!!
Volunteer Paperwork: The school asks that you fill out the proper district volunteer forms before coming to volunteer. These forms are mandatory. If you would like to go on field trips with us you will need to also fill out the forms for the background check. Here is the link where you will find those forms: http://www.mcpsmt.org/Page/9033
Birthdays: A healthy treat, or a regular snack item, is welcomed on your kiddo's special day. (See my Pinterest page for ideas.) Cupcakes are a fun tradition but we ask this tradition be done at home. Your child will still celebrate their special day but I ask the food stay a healthy option. Thank you for understanding! Also, please do not send invitations to parties to school unless every child in the class is invited, otherwise children are sure to feel left out.
Updates: If you have changed your address, phone number, email, or emergency contact for your child, please update this information as soon as possible with myself and our school secretary, Bridget Allen at 542-4035. Please call Bridget if your child is sick, or if you have an excused absence.
Mrs. Winter's Contact Info: Please email, call, or text me with any questions, concerns, or ideas you may have. If you text, please be sure to sign your name so I know who it's from. Just know that I may not respond until after school as I am busy with your child and his/her classmates during school hours. My email is [email protected], my cell number is 546-8826, and my school number is 728-2400 x4373.
The best thing you can do for your child to ease the transition to school: Come on time every day (they hate coming in late!!!), make sure they have regular attendance, and GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP!!! These first weeks are exhausting!
Thank you for entrusting me with your child. I am looking forward to a great year!
