On Monday we focused on math position words. We learned the meaning of position words as words that describe a location of an object in relationship to another. Check out these photos. See if your kiddo can describe what they see in the photo. For example, in the photo above your kiddo might say, "Sage is above Warren." Have fun! Posting these photos I realize I only took ones of the kiddos modeling the words over/above, under/below/beneath, and on. The words I don't have in the photos are beside/next to, inside, outside, between. Maybe you and your kiddo can do some movement of your own!

For "I Love to Read Week" we brought in a stuffed animal friend from home. We shared our animals with our friends and then the kiddos snuggled them while I read them a story. My stuffie is a moose. I snuggled Mr. Moose while I read to them the story, "Have You Ever Seen a Moose Taking a Bath?" After the story was read the kiddos thought of a story they could write with their stuffie as the main character. They shared their writing ideas with a friend and went back to their tables and began their masterpieces. We had se great ideas! This morning when my family and I woke up to all this snow we thought for sure it would be a snow day. We were hoping to go sledding. When we realized that we did have school we were a little disappointed. That got me thinking. I figured that maybe some of you had a similar experience so I decided to bring our sled to school. We went out and had an extra long recess. I pulled each kiddo down our "sled hill"... multiple times. We had so much fun. We had a blast. I was truly sweating. I felt like I do after a long run. Whew!!! It was a blast.
Today we were visited by two MSU nursing students that gave a presentation on healthy dental habits. Here is what your kiddos learned from the presentation: Brush your teeth so you don't get cavities.-S.P. Floss once a day.-K.M. Brush your back teeth.-P.B. Wear your seatbelt so if you get in a car crash your teeth won't get knocked out.-E.P. Brush your teeth back and forth.-N.H. Sing the ABC song two times while brushing your teeth.-E.A. Eat whoa foods only once in a while so you don't get cavities.-C.S. Brush your teeth every night and every day.-N.B. Eat healthy foods like carrots.-N.A. Brush your teeth after eating sugar.-C.S. Visit the dentist once a year. The following are two charts from the nurses on how to properly brush and floss our teeth: During learning centers we wrote about what we learned from the presentation, played a popcorn word game where when a "brush, brush, brush" card was flipped, we pretended to brush our teeth while we sang the ABC song twice, and we ordered number words one through ten and represented with "teeth". Wow what a day. We began the day in Creative Movement as Olympic Ice Skaters making our moves. Then, once in the classroom, we brainstormed ways to count out 100 red cups out of a bag that contained 240. We had some great ideas such as counting out 2 groups of 50, counting by 10's, counting by 5's, counting by 2's to 10 ten times, and to count each cup to 100. We tried each way mentioned above and noticed that each way led us to the same answer. Then each kiddo got five cups and we made a tower of 100 cups! After lunch we read Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for the 100 Day of Kindergarten. Then we had Learning Centers. We drew a picture of ourselves as 100 year olds and wrote about what we think we will be doing when we are 100. We had a wide range of responses from owning a cat to driving a John Deer tractor. We also used the app called "Oldster" to make ourselves look like our wonderful grandparents. We also counted out our 100 items, made a 100 day crown, and played a math game called "Roll the Dice to 100" using a hundreds chart. Then we ended our time together with a banana bread "muffin cake" my son Clifford and I made for the class. Yum yum! It was a great 100th day in kindergarten! We have been going bananas here in kindergarten since we have been stuck inside for three days straight. Check it out! What a perfect day for an art lesson with Mrs. Thompson, our art teacher. We made clay hearts with messages of love. Catlyn's family brought us supplies to make bird feeders for the birds that don't migrate for the winter. We had lots of fun making our creations and licking the peanut butter off of our fingers. Yum! Thanks Catlyn, Chris, and Jen! |
