All 80 Lewis and Clark kindergarteners met in the gym this morning to experience Kid's Oula. What a great way to start the holiday week. It was so great to try something new! It helped fire up our brains and our bodies for a busy day of learning.

Look at these pictures of our kiddos practicing what they have learned about reading books. As a kindergarten teacher there is nothing better than witnessing children cross over into the "Literacy Club". They are discovering that they are putting into practice the skills they need to read and understand literature! Way to go kiddos! Wow, what a celebration! The kinder kiddos planned a celebration that included healthy lifestyle choices we have been learning about in kindergarten. We had an Apple Walk, an adapted Cake Walk, where we "grooved" in the center of a circle of letters and when the music stopped we froze behind a letter. We said the name and sound of our letter and waited to see if our letter was chosen. If our letter was the chosen we got an apple. Everyone received an apple. We finished the apple walk, had our apple for snack and then went out for recess. We had an extra long recess and played with our big buddies. We came inside and had a most delicious snack of fruit, veggies, low-fat milk, pumpkin muffins, and our treat... apple cake. We then put on some Big Band music and boogied until it was time to go home. I have to say it was the best half day of school I have ever experienced. Thank you kiddos for planning a great celebration and thank you parents for providing our delicious, healthy, treats! To culminate and assess our IB Unit of Study on making healthy choices we planned a class celebration that will take place on Thursday's early dismissal day. We teamed up with our big buddies where the little buddies told their big buddies their ideas for our healthy party. Our big buddies wrote down their ideas, I compiled the data collected, shared the ideas with the kinder kiddos, and then we had a class vote as to what we will eat at our celebration and what activities we will partake in. Every kiddo included healthy food choices and healthy activities. Here is a slideshow of some great pictures of our kiddos teaming up with their big buddies to share their party planning ideas: We woke up to fresh snow this morning, woo hoo! We couldn't wait for recess so we could get out and play in it. Check out some great pictures of our friends enjoying the fresh powder while following our school's snow rules.
Today we had an activity break and did the Instant Recess "Zenergy". Your kiddos turned into superheroes and loved it. We talked about how you can upload this video on your smart TV or computer, or tablet, and have some active family time during the snowy weather. Have fun! What a great day of Halloween fun. After a morning jammed pack with great learning about glyphs, we had a fabulous Halloween celebration in the afternoon. We changed into our costumes after lunch and read the book, The Haunted House by Joy Cowley. Then we had Halloween themed Learning Centers. We played Halloween Bingo, had an amazing sensory experience exploring what felt like eyeballs, brains, guts, and bat teeth, assembled a healthy treat that looked like a scare crow, made patterns with our thumbprints, and got a little time on the iPads since it was our day with the technology. Then we had a wonderful feast of healthy treats, had some choice time, and headed home. We had so much fun that our lovely school secretary had to come check it out! What a great day in kindergarten indeed!! Check out the slideshow below of our fabulous day: |
