Boy was this a busy week. We have been working our tails off and having fun in the process, getting ready for the end of the year. It's hard to believe we only have two more weeks of school. Yikes! I haven't taken many photos in the last couple of days but here are a few good ones! Also big news this week... Yesterday I had my last Dance Integration observation of a lesson integrating the energy qualities of dance with the science concept forces and motion. It was a big success and I earned my Dance Integration teaching certificate. Whoop whoop!

We experimented with different materials to see how we could get our marble to move. We pushed, we pulled, we used the force of gravity with the blocks, to accomplish th task. Ask your kiddo about the process they went through to get their marble to move. Then they wanted MORE! They asked to add more blocks and other classroom materials to make a creation that manipulated their marble to move even more. Groups worked together to make a plan and execute their plan, making adjustments along the way. Problem solving skills were at their finest during this activity. After we finished and tested our final products, groups shared them with the class.
It was a great day for a field trip. The weather was perfect, dance class was amazing, and the surprise carousel ride was the best! Best day EVER! We made signs to take with us to the soccer fields to cheer on the Olympic Athletes. After recess we ended up in the Discovery Core noticing all the changes that have happened since last week. So proud of these junior naturalists! After lunch we headed over to the soccer fields with Ms. Cooper's kiddos. We got to sit in the stands and watch an awards ceremony followed by four different soccer games going on at one time. It was a very exciting time!
It's hard to believe we only have a month left of kindergarten! We have so much to do, yikes! Here are a few pics from the day.
Today we wrapped up our How We Express Ourselves unit of inquiry. The kinder kiddos were given time and the materials to create whatever they wanted to show their understanding of our central idea: Nature inspires creativity. We had visual artists use watercolors to paint fish and nature items to create pictures; sculptors used clay to make turtles, ladybugs, water skippers, turtle shells, pictures of themselves out in nature; sculptors used nature items to make items such as a magic machine; dancers used music to create a nature inspired dance. It was a great way to spend much of our day. One of our kiddos said they wished everyday could be like this... And I agree! I told the kindergarteners about how their 3rd grade buddies will be starting the state testing tomorrow. Through a group conversation, the kindergarteners decided to take action. They wanted to do something to encourage their big buddies. We decided to make them motivational notes. Some kiddos wrote things like "I believe in you" Or " You've Got This" or "Good Luck". Then they drew a picture and wrote a note on the back. We delivered them to our buddies after lunch. On our way out we overheard the buddies asking their teacher if they can take their notes with them to the computer lab for when they test. Awe! Too sweet!
We came back to class and discussed how it made us feel to give and how it probably felt to receive those notes. We decided that it doesn't take much to make someone's day! Way to go kinder kiddos! Today was two of our friends' last day of kindergarten. Ms. P and Ms. L are heading back to Germany for the summer. They will be back for first grade. We will miss them dearly!
It was a day filled with math, reading, and writing. Check out the great pics. This morning all 4 kindergarten classes got together to share their pond posters with one another. Ask your kiddos what they learned about the Red-winged Blackbird, the Columbian Spotted Frog, and Cattails.
