The Lewis and Clark Peace Choir had the wonderful opportunity of singing with the Whizpops at the Top Hat Friday night. Two of our kiddos were part of the group and did an amazing job. It was an amazing night! Way to go kiddos!

Big Buddy time is the highlight of our week. Friday we got together and I read the kiddos, Night Tree. A beautiful story of a family's Christmas tradition of going out and decorating a tree in the woods with food for the forest animals. Then we made our very own night trees with our buddies.
We studied George Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. We noticed the interesting clothing, the pastel like colors, how hard it is to see the background of the masterpiece, and much more. We learned that this piece is a massive piece. We figured it is about the size of one of our classroom walls. Then we were shocked to learn that this painting took Seurat years to create. We knew why as soon as we discovered this painting was a pointillism piece. Holy smokes. We discussed how that must have taken Seurat lots of patience and perseverance. We used this piece for a math lesson. We created math story problems using the painting and then wrote the equations on our individual whiteboards. A couple examples include, "Two dogs playing plus one dog sniffing the picnic equals three dogs in the painting" and "15 people sitting plus 16 people standing equals 31 people on the grass". It was a very interesting math lesson but all were engaged and we had a little art appreciation lesson at the same time. Hooray!!! Paint mixing is one of my favorite art activities to do with Kindergarteners. Around Thanksgiving, we created amazing and beautiful pumpkin patches using only the primary colors. First we created the perfect orange for our pumpkins, painted a whole sheet of white construction paper, and let dry while we worked on the background. Before mixing the colors to make the green grass and the perfect twilight sky, we learned about the horizon. We used a pencil to draw the horizon line then got busy mixing and painting our background. After the background dried we used the orange sheet to cut out pumpkins, cut a thin strip off the side of our background sheet, and used that strip to create stems and other details. The end result was stunning. Art leads to a happy soul!!!
Each kiddo asked many questions about the animals they explored. We will be finding out the answers to all of our questions. This unit will be taking place through the beginning of February.
Every one of us has an invisible bucket inside of us. When our bucket is full we are happy and at peace. When our bucket is low or empty we are sad and feel blue. Today we read a book about how to fill other's buckets. When we fill other's buckets our bucket gets full as well. Some ways to fill these buckets are to help others, give a smile, use polite words, be a good friend, tell the ones you love, "I love you," and so much more. Our main goal is not to be bucket dippers. When we dip into others' buckets we make them sad and blue. I gave your kiddos homework... Fill your family's buckets. Hopefully your buckets are full! Lisa Tims, the Catch Coordinator from The Health Department, came in to talk about healthy Go Activities. These are activities we should be doing everyday to keep our hearts, bodies, and brains healthy and strong. We played a game where the kiddos came up and acted out an activity and the rest of the group had to guess the Go Activity. They came up with some great examples: running, riding a bike, swimming, jumping on a trampoline, playing tennis, yoga, dancing, playing football, playing tag games, walking the dog, and so many more.
