Yesterday we studied the abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky. We noticed that his artwork has bold color with many geometric shapes and straight and curvy lines. One of his works of art, titled Farbstudie Quadrate, has bold rich color with many different circles. We decided to mimic this piece of art to illustrate our place in our community. The inner circle representing ourselves, the next circle our classroom, the next circle our school, the next the city of Missoula, then the world. We had a lesson in color mixing and had at it. The results are stunning!

We have a system in our classroom where everyday one of our kinder friends is the class helper. As the helper they have many jobs throughout the day, one of which is leading the calendar on Mr. Smarty Pants in the morning. Here is Emily as the helper of the day. We went on a walking field trip to our local market. We were given a fabulous tour of Pattee Creek Market. We learned about the positive role each member of the market plays. Mrs. Irwin came in today and shared with us the positive role she plays as a flourist in our community. (I have a post coming soon of all our parent's visits... stay tuned.) Mrs. Irwin made a beautiful flower arrangement in front of us. We then brainstormed who we should give the beautiful flowers to. As a class we decided to deliver the flowers to our wonderful secretary, Ms. Bridget. She has had a pretty stressful week with kindergarten registration and helping the big kiddos with their testing shedule. We thought she could use a little recognition. The flowers certainly did the trick. She absolutely loved them and felt moved by the kindness our kiddos exhibited. Mrs. Irwin also brought enough roses for each of our kinder friends to deliver to a special person of their choice. Many went home to moms, grandmas, baby sitters but many stayed here at school to friends, big buddies, and other teachers. Our kiddos have big, big hearts!!! Thank you Mrs. Irwin!!! As a part of our unit of study on community we brainstormed a way we could help our school community. I mentioned to the kiddos that our big buddies are beginning the big tests they have to take each year. I asked them what we could do to help them out or let them know we are thinking about them in this time of stress. They came up with writing them notes. So we decided to make them good luck testing grams. Each kiddo made their big buddies a Good Luck Testing Gram that we will deliver to the 4th graders tomorrow, accompanied with a big smile and a hug! |
