What a great day we had today. We began with specials! We visited the library where Mr. Nordtome began teaching us about proper check out and use of books. Then we got to go outside! HOORAY!!! We learned all about our school's Peace Path, practiced being calm in this area of our playground and then took off to go play! Once we came in we made our September calendars which came home today. This calendar has important information such as birth dates, specials schedule, field trips, our current Unit of Inquiry, etc. Once we were done we headed to lunch and outside recess, double hooray! When we came back in we sang the Yellow Song, made a yellow jar, read In My New Yellow Shirt, and made our yellow page for our Color Books. Everyone was so excited that the kitchen was open for our Inquiry Centers today. We had to problem solve what to do if it gets too crowded. They decided they wanted a set number. They decided to try 4 as the most that can be in that center to be comfortable. When we reflected after Center time they decided it was a good number. We also reflected on how patient some of us were when we waited to be able to go into that center. Some of us have to wait until next time. We cleaned up Centers and had a wonderful, healthy birthday snack for Mr. D. In our kindergarten classroom our birthday snacks are just a normal snack just like any day... a healthy fruit and/or veggie. We still sing to our birthday friend and he/she gets to be the special helper for the day. Please save the sugary, yummy treat for celebrating at home.
It it was another wonderful day in K! Tomorrow is orange day!

Today seems like a blur. We were so busy I didn't take many pictures. We began the day hugging Marty Moose, sharing our name and saying good morning. We learned the movement song "Going on a Bear Hunt", ask your kiddos about it. We were also visited by all the Specialists Teachers. They each introduced themselves and shared with us their role here at Lewis and Clark. We learned and sang the Blue Song, made a blue jar, made a list of all things blue, and read Blueberries for Sal. Then we completed our blue page for our Color Books. Then we went outside for 5 minutes to get our wiggles out. Once again, these 5 minutes were packed full of fun! After a delicious, healthy snack we had some exploration time. We call this time Inquiry Centers. Right now it's all about exploring new materials and figuring out how to work together. After Inquiry Centers we cleaned up and reflected on our time. They noticed that everyone was quiet when they heard the chime, some people cleaned up whole centers by themselves and didn't complain about it, and some of our friends complimented other friends' artwork. Such great noticings. We will continue to reflect on this time together which will be used later to set expectations for Inquiry Centers. After lunch we came in and did a collaborative art piece where we created Blueberry Hills inspired by the book Blueberries for Sal. Check out the great pics of your kiddos working together! Another great day in K! Tomorrow is yellow day!!!
Another fabulous day in K! Seriously... your kiddos are amazing. We practiced appropriate bathroom behavior, learned to talk in a whisper voice in the hall while we waited for our friends who were using the restroom, picked our new square spots at the carpet, learned our quiet signal, figured out who are Turn and Talk Partners are, practiced how to stop, look, and listen when the teacher calls for their attention, and we learned where our table spots are. Phew that's a lot! We also learned and sang the Red Song. Check it out: We made a jar of clear water turn into red water. Ask your kiddos how it was done! Then we read Who Said Red and made our first page of our Color Books. Then we went outside and had about 5 minutes of recess since the air quality wasn't the best. But boy did we have a blast in those 5 minutes! We came in, had a snack, and got to explore some learning materials. We "paused our play" (a phrase we use a lot) and went to lunch. We came back and continued our explorations. Then we cleaned up and I read Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten. Your kiddos noticed that the kids in the story were animals and their names started with each letter of the alphabet. What a great discovery! I used this discovery to introduce our first 4 ZooPhonics friends. We will meet more tomorrow!
Its blue day tomorrow... have your kiddos wear blue!!! Your kiddos are rock stars! We learned a lot about how school works here at Lewis and Clark. They learned about proper use of the restroom, how recess works, and how to navigate the lunch room. They also learned about warm fuzzies, the magic word, how to ask to use the restroom in sign language, and two of our class signals. Here are some pictures from our day! Tomorrow is red day... have your kiddo wear red!!!
