We began our new unit of study today by learning about a prominent member of our community, Julia Galloway. Julia is a very famous artist that lives right here in Missoula. She is the dean of the Fine Arts Department at The University of Montana. She is a world renown potter and my grad school teacher. This summer I took a clay making class with Julia where I learned how to make a large pot called a vessel. Using the coil technique I learned in grad school we made our own classroom community clay coil pot. Each kiddo got a piece of clay they first formed into a sphere. Then they placed the sphere on the table and used both hands to form a "snake", also known as a coil. After all the coils were made each kiddo came up and added their's to our communal creation. Check out the pictures of our amazing experience!

We started our day making our March calendars that we should have made on Friday but Mother Nature had other plans for us. The calendar has the specials schedule so please put it in a safe spot to reference each morning. It is important your kiddos have gym shoes on gym day and library books on library day. We read the book Horton Hears a Who, by Dr. Seuss and then watched the movie. Then we joined Ms. Cooper's class and listened to Mr. Chumrau read us Dr. Seuss' The Sneetches. We ended our time together with a green deviled egg and a Lorax orange with a Tuffala tree cheese stick. We also has some Hop On Pop popcorn. Yum. Yum! It was a very mellow Dr. Seuss Day! |
