We started another fabulous morning in the Outdoor Discovery Core. We are sketching and drawing what we are noticing in nature. We are also writing our wonderings we are coming up with from our work in our journals! After being outside for an hour Ms. K said, "I feel so good. I think I really needed to be outside!" After lunch we made our April calendars. Tomorrow is a half day. Kinder dismissal is at 11:05. Then Spring Break... See you again on April 11th.

We began the day with addition and subtraction math centers that the kiddos chose to have out for the day. Then we got to go out in the Outdoor Discovery Core. We focused on staying in one spot in the ODC and journal about our experience. We noticed that by staying in one spot we actually saw more detail in the things around us. We shared our journal entries with others. They were totally into seeing what others found in their "sit spots". After being in the ODC we came back in and had Inquiry Center time. Mr. K brought in a Robin's nest he found in his backyard. After closely observing the nest we decided to sketch it in our Nature Journals. They were so excited!
We were able to get outside this morning and add to our nature journals. We focused on how being in the outdoors feels. Two big ones we agreed on was the feeling of being energized and feeling calm. Two feelings not often thought of as being felt together. We had our second of a two step art project with Mrs. Thompson today. They turned out pretty awesome! We had a few minutes before recess so I led the kiddos in a little yoga! Look at the great downward dogs!
We began the day in movement class with our movement community friends from Ms. Cooper's class. We worked on being creative with our moves and being respectful of other's personal space. After movement we went out in the Outdoor Discovery Core with our Nature Journals. When the kiddos were told that they were heading out to the ODC they ALL cheered! After lunch we went around the school and hung our kindness posters. We have had lots of positive feedback from the teachers and their students about the video we made and sent out to the school. So proud!
We went out into the Outdoor Discovery Core with our new Nature Journals. We walked around the ODC making careful observations before choosing what we were going to sketch. Then we filled a page in our journal with sketches and labels of things we observed.
We began the day learning the art of sketching. We carefully looked at our collection of natural items and sketched every detail in our reflection journals. We have also finished our Nature Journals. We will be heading out into our Outdoor Discovery Core to record our findings in these new journals. We can't wait!
We started off the day writing in our reflection journals, the answer to the question, "What is nature?" They answered with pictures and/or drawings. Then we shared our work with a partner. After journaling we began our math work with brainstorming what we could do with a handful of paper shamrocks that each had a different letter on them and were different sizes. We ended up spelling real and nonsense words with them, we sorted them by size, and we ordered them from largest to smallest. Then we had math centers focusing on math strategies for addition and subtraction. After lunch we had Inquiry Centers where we got to experience some new centers. During centers I pulled groups to do writer's workshop! Another amazing day in K!
We decided as a class last week that we wanted to start keeping Nature Journals. We illustrated our covers today. They turned out super adorable! We had an afternoon with Mrs. Thompson, the district art teacher. We did the first step of a two step art project. Then we went out early to recess, ate snack outside and had a little extra recess.
We began the day in movement with our movement community. We were given a number card and had to find a partner, or trio, compare our numbers, and show with our bodies which number was greater than, less than, or equal. This afternoon we brainstormed ways we can make a difference in our community. The kiddos had so many amazing ideas it was hard to choose. In the future we will be organizing a school yard clean up and we will make posters to go around the school to teach people how to take care of the Earth (Mr. A.L. And Mr. J.F.'s idea). We will also be coordinating a visit to the Assisted Living Home nearby to bring them cookies and dance with/for them (Ms. R.R. And Ms. P.M.'s idea). Mr. K.D. wants to cheer on special athletes which will be happening in May when we get to go to the Special Olympics and cheer on our Missoula teams! And today we worked on Ms. D.R.'s idea of reminding kiddos at Lewis and Clark of how to be kind and caring to one another. We decided to make posters that we will be hanging all over school. We are also going to use our posters for a video we will be creating on Monday, to send to the teachers to show in the other classrooms, here at Lewis and Clark! So proud of these kinder kiddos! Then we had a little time with our big buddies. We love Fridays!
Hooray! Weebly is up and running again! It was a great day today. We got together with our big buddies and made leprechaun hats, watch some Irish dancers in the gym, listened to some St. Patti's Day stories, and had Inquiry Centers. During centers we read the book, Have you seen my pot of gold?. This story is a paper book that the kiddos got to bring home. They were so excited!
